Product Review: Apple MagSafe Airline Adapter for MacBook and MacBook Pro

Thinking I could watch some movies or do some work on the long flight between Edmonton and Beijing, I went out to my local Mac store and bought one of these.

Honestly, I don't know if it even works. The Air Canada flight had 110 Volt/60 Hz plugins that worked with my regular adaptor. Not once did I find an opportunity to remove the contraption from the side pouch of my backpack. The mouse, which shared the same pouch, got much more play. Poor Apple MagSafe Airline Adaptor for MacBook and (take a breath) MacBook Pro never got to play.

It's not that I didn't try. I flew on Air Canada, Air China, Air Macau, and Dragonair. Air Macau was even in Business Class. I looked carefully for a chance to use AMSAAMBMBP but, alas, it remained unused.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it. If the Air Canada flights had regular plugins, does that mean that most other airlines will follow suite? It would make sense to provide something a bit more universal than a limited DC power source. My suggestion is to follow Apple's advice: "Check with your airline regarding availability of in-seat power ports."
